Very nice. If that is what you can do with a pick, I can't wait to here you do some serious slapping and popping.

Thanks!

I never put a ton of time into my slap technique, it's OK but not very efficient & I can't keep it up for long. I had tried that line with a hybrid technique of pick + pull-off popping, but this just seemed to work fine & do justice. The toughest part of the song was at the key change to the B section, I had to stretch 10th & 7th frets on the E string to go down from a D to a B at the end of the line, that's why the medium scale VS got the call for the first set!

The finger-picked tunes are more like poppy songs where I'm pushing the beat & giving it some "bounce", not really funky tunes...although, I haven't listened yet, so I might have thrown something in.

There's an 8-piece horn-driven funk band (James Brown, Sly Stone, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, KC & Sunshine Band, etc.) looking for a bass player here, they liked my audition but haven't committed yet...I may be slappin' & poppin' yet. we'll see.

Get down with your bad self ! :D Well done ! Both axes sound great, the "Cat" sounds better than I might have expected.
I usually lean toward "miked -up" amp sounds (ok, sometimes I cheat and use a Sansamp  ) but the direct sounds really good on these, not too sterile at all.

Sounds like this was a fun project !

Cheers,
G

Glad you liked my bad self, it was a hoot.

The Cat benefitted from the EMG passives, and would benefit more from betterer pickups. Still heavy & with a not-quite-stiff-enough neck, though.

The combination of the venue arrangement, channel allocation & other issues made me go for a DI box...the last thing I wanted was too much bleed. I'll try re-amping, what you're hearing here is just a plug-in with a "cabinet simulator" that took away a touch of the DI sterility. If you're curious I could post a test with different treatments from start to finish.

I found this link by way of Aria USA news. This is the Swedish band Soulshake Express and their singer/guitarist with a vintage Aria Pro II guitar:

Also, I have added several bass players to my Aria bass video links...I am inching towards 50 players.

from your blog: "Wallenstein bassplayer (unknown)"
= Terry Park (SB 1000), 1979
Wallenstein guitar player = Pete Brough (LS 600), 1979

cheers, mozart (reading 1979 music magazines at the moment :D )

Here is a cool video of Herb Ellis (RIP) playing his Aria Pro II. I believe Herb passed away a year ago today, at least according to Aria Guitars on Facebook. Also as an added Uncle Mat bonus, the bass player, Joe Byrd, is playing an SB-1000.

Herbie Ellis, along with Kenny Burrell, were my first two real Jazz guitar heroes.
And what can you say about Charlie Byrd? Just beautiful playing.
I've never really warmed up much to Kessel's playing. I find his tone to be a bit muffled and slurred for my tastes.

But what a nice set. Thanks for that link Integra. Really enjoyed it!
