I never put a ton of time into my slap technique, it's OK but not very efficient & I can't keep it up for long. I had tried that line with a hybrid technique of pick + pull-off popping, but this just seemed to work fine & do justice. The toughest part of the song was at the key change to the B section, I had to stretch 10th & 7th frets on the E string to go down from a D to a B at the end of the line, that's why the medium scale VS got the call for the first set!
The finger-picked tunes are more like poppy songs where I'm pushing the beat & giving it some "bounce", not really funky tunes...although, I haven't listened yet, so I might have thrown something in.
There's an 8-piece horn-driven funk band (James Brown, Sly Stone, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, KC & Sunshine Band, etc.) looking for a bass player here, they liked my audition but haven't committed yet...I may be slappin' & poppin' yet. we'll see.
