I'm still not sure how I arrived at this place but, I stumbled across an AP2 on stage (1:29).

And seeing that made me look for this. . .

I went back to the first one and this was another link I found interesting. . .

Hey guys. Hope you all are doing well. Haven't been here to post in a long time (I finally realized what an ignoramus I was compared to the REAL experts on the board). I wanted to use an emoticon, but there isn't one for "ragged old geezer."

Anyway:

I put in the DVD for Van Halen "Live Without a Net" a while ago--I noticed Michael Anthony playing an SB series bass on "5150" (the video isn't clear enough and doesn't dwell on Mikey long enough for me to tell whether it's a 700 or a 1000). I saw VH on that tour in another city--a friend took pics (not very good ones) and they show Mikey playing what is probably the same bass there as well--so it's probably his go-to for that one song. For those who don't know, Mikey had an extensive collection back then--for all I know, he still may--anyway--it looks like he swapped basses on almost every song then.

Good to hear from you Slo-hand and that is a great catch!
One of the clearest shots I found was at 3:12. One pickup, smack dab in the center.
Per the specs I found, only the SB600 and SB700 had a single pickup with a dark color. The SB600 (black) and the SB700 (walnut).
That looks to be black to me.

Slo-hand got me listening to music and lookin for Mats.
Here's Neal Schon from '83 with one of his signature PE's (starts at 6:01 and he plays it a fair amount through the show).

Gorgeous guitar, and very tasty playing by Shon!

And, what can you say about Steve Perry? One of the most extraordinary voices in pop/rock.

Hello Barry. Hello Jorg.

Thanks to you both for acknowledging me. It's nice to hear from you as well.

Barry is right. It's an SB-700. The bass Mikey is playing has the "wings" and head-stock painted black.

I got thrown by a two-year-old Reverb listing where the seller claimed an SB-700 was an SB-1000 "with the neck-thru center section left natural" (not an exact quote, but the claim that was made). Cliff Burton (Duran Duran) played a black SB-1000 (solid black) for one year in the 80s before switching to a Black'n'Gold the following year. I'm guessing the seller just didn't know and was playing up the bass as best he could.

The Journey was nice to see/hear as well. Thanks, Jorg.
