Keiran was a member of the Westone Forum for a number of years and was ultimately a bit of a "problem child" for that time. After ruffling a few feathers, he drifted away.

During that time I was the builder and maintainer of the westoneguitars.net website as well as co-manager of the Forum along with Corsair (who's also a long time member here).

We had a former member in the UK who had been generously donating the hosting for the site during the period of the site's creation but eventually had to withdraw that support. That led to my taking full control of the hosting and I moved it to Canada and continued to flesh out the content.

We were now faced with hosting costs which I personally paid for initially, then we appealed to the membership for help. They responded and we carried on for a few years

Sadly, after several years the membership involvement went down considerably to the point where we couldn't fund the site any longer and I looked for a way to keep the site and it's contents going.

I eventually contacted Keiran to see if he would be interested in taking over. He was adamant that he had the skills to do so and I transferred control back to the UK. in 2021.

Initially he kept my design, but replaced it with his own. I tried pointing out what was not working and why certain things should be done another way, but eventually he ended up taking offence and I simply dropped out of the scene altogether.

The site had an awful lot of problems for an awful long time, and despite improvements still doesn't work smoothly, especially the home page, navigation, and many image displays. But at least the content created during that time has been preserved so for that I thank him.

The unfortunate news is that he is not updating any new information discovered in the Westone Forum despite my having explained how it worked in tandem with the web site, and having made him a Forum Admin.

Interesting stuff! Late bloomer and that's how the legacy lives on!

I realized we didn't have a link to westone.info on our index/landing page so it has been added.

Neal, westone.info is a tombstone site of all the original information developed by David Blair. For years it was the go to place for all things Westone.

David decided to divest himself of the site and, long story short, we started to rebuild under the name westonegutars.net, Keiran Wynyard somehow obtained the rights to that site which he still hosts, and later I also was given a copy of the site which I used as the foundation on which to construct westoneguitars.net.

It contains all of David's original hard work, plus mine, plus considerable updates, corrections and additions from the Westone Forum members.

I would respectfully suggest that you link to westoneguitars.net instead for a fuller and more accurate resource.

So should I remove the link?

This site had become a major PITA to update as it was all hand coded HTML which went back two decades. Either myself or a visitor would find a new broken link or broken image. Simply too much to keep track of. Over 2200 files. Then there was the hotlinking from other forums sometimes better than half the bandwidth. With each addition it became one step more complicated. Adding even a single catalog and all the links could take hours. In April of 2021 I went with Wordpress. Being phone friendly had become a battle cry for Google and we were being penalized for it. It takes me about 30 minutes to add new catalogs including the image work after the conversion. Now all the content is searchable as well.

It took about a month to convert, collate and update all the old content and that was working every day after I retired.

The westone.info link has been removed. westoneguitars.net has been in the links for a very long time.

I feel your pain. :loon:
These days you must design for mobile first and everything else is a bonus at best.

Me, I still do all my real work on a desktop with two monitors (augmented occasionally by laptop) so I can see what the hell I'm doing! :look:

I almost never do anything on a smart phone (except to talk! or take occasional pictures or videos), it's too confining and my arthritic hands don't get along to well with it either. Even browsing is a frustrating experience.

Hey, as far as westone.info is concerned there's no harm in having it, but as pointed out it is woefully out of date, and "dated". And all its original content is reflected in the westoneguitars.net site anyway.

At best it's redundant, at worst it's incomplete and possibly inaccurate in some respects.
Thanks for the re-direct!

We still have a couple of pages that are not "mobile friendly" but the way I see it if they're one of those mindless nitwits that walks around with their phone in their face they don't need it anyway.

I have 8 computers on my network full time with two more as needed. My main workstation is still Win7 but I do have one Win11 box. My main display is a 50" 4K TV with 4 virtual desktops (using Dexpot).

I didn't watch all of that video but I had a feeling someone would know who this guy is and have that type description of him...
