Thanks!!!! I just wrote an article about Matsumoku on Wikipedia (hard to believe that there wasn't one.) After reading this interview, I had to do a heavy edit on it. Shiro Arai is the best source one can hope for.

The relationship between Aria and Matsumoku was unclear to me until this interview. It also verifies what I had translated from Japanese magazines: that Singer partially owned Matsumoku from just after WWII.

And thank you Shiro Arai for dispelling the fire / earthquake myth!

I wish Mr. Arai had talked about the Epiphone contract. I am 99.9% sure that Gibson contracted Epi production with Aria and not directly with Matsumoku.
