Hello there,

I am currently thinking of buying a bass in order to refinish it but I am uncertain about the model.
Here is a link to the seller's ad: http://www.leboncoin.fr/instruments_de_ ... 551950.htm
And here is a closer look to the body and neck https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6Dx_jK ... xX2pB/edit

I am uncertain about the model because the neck is a 3 piece maple neck unlike all Sb basses.
The body seems to be a mahogany sandwich.

Could you please help me finding out the model?

Cheers
nemo

Hi Nemo,

I cannot access the googledocs picture, any way you can upload it somewhere else - like Photobucket or Flickr?

It looks odd from the sale picture.

Hmm. . . it's hard to tell which holes are original and which are not. It's a dot neck with 22 frets. :-?

There have been a lot of variations of the SB theme, since the closure of Matsumoku and I would think this is a newer model (made after 1988). The output socket on the picture is for side mounting (wasn't common in the Matsumoku days) and the four pots seen on the parts picture would neatly fit into a SB-1200 (http://gfyfe.com/sb1200.htm).
