Hi all. My Dad had this round his house for years. I have searched this site and the internet and can't find a similar bass!

From what I can see it's an SB-700 with a replaced pickup and the pickup switch removed. The weird thing is it has a black headstock and a sunburst finish (and up the back of the neck). From the online catalog archive I can't see this as being an optional colour on any of the SB-700's. It has the bat headstock. Seial number 006067. Any advice appreciated.

Is it a set neck or neck-through body?

Anyway, that's a nice find! The only bad thing is the original pickup is gone, but you can get replacements these days.

Take a look at the photos on the photobucket link of the back. I think this means it's a neck through? Yes, will get the pickup replaced ASAP. Should I find an original pickup or buy an aftermarket one like one of these: http://www.rautiaguitars.net/aria-pro-ii.html

That would be a set neck.

Thanks Trevor!!!! After a bit more searching on SB-600's I have found two more like mine in the same Tobacco Sunburst! The thing that threw me is that SB-600's have a bolt on necks and there was no mention of a Tobacco Sunburst model anywhere in the catalogs. I read a single post somewhere where someone said that they originally had bolt on necks (1979?) and the 'set neck' model is very rare. Not sure if this is true. Anyway, I need to know the exact pickup that was in here so I can replace it. I know nothing about pickups I read that it could be an MB-1? I can see a few alternatives to pop in there but the current one is a single coil and a bit naff.
