...the resistance on that neck pickup is 15.52 :hyper: do u think it is an actual DiMarzio

On a neck pup? Holy blast furnace Batman!

I know, is that strange at all? I mean I guess it is a super distortion? everything I look at for neck pickups are around th 7-8 range...maybe I tested it wrong. I just set my volt meter to resistance and touched the wires while the pickup was removed from the guitar. I am going to test the bridge pickup next. I know it sounds very loud like a super distortion would. Just weird that there are no markings at all.

Assuming this is a DiMarzio SD, that reading is high but it's probably within spec and at the top of the tolerance range.

And keep in mind that resistance readings are not definitive, they only give a quick way to do a rough comparison between pickups. They are not a true measure of output, that's a bit more complicated to measure.

The bottom line is not the output power, but how well it sounds. If it's responsive, has a suitable tonal range, breaks up when you want, warms up when you want, etc. then you're good to go. And if you have extra power to cut through a band mix that's a bonus for a lead player.

OEM pups had no markings back then.

DiMarzio SD's were commonly found on white label brands out of Japan, especially in the 70's.
Some Canadian el Degas Les Paul models are one example that I know of which had them, and which make that guitar still desirable.

I believe DiMarzio got its start and raised it's profile by supplying these 'no name' pups. Frenchy's right, often they were plain backs with no markings, but I do recall seeing them later on with a sticker.

thank you everyone, you have all been extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I appreciate it! I'll post a new thread when I'm done upgrading wiring harness with better pics!

Finished the updates and upgrades:

Put a new set of Gotoh Locking Magnum Tuners on it, a graph tech TUSQ nut, Gotoh aged nickel TOM bridge with matching aluminum tail piece, aged speed knobs with pointers, and an upgraded wiring harness consisting of CTS/DiMarzio pots, .047 uF orange drop capacitors and a switchcraft 3-way switch. I didn't want to swap the pickups out because they sound so bad ass, so I found a website that sells covers that fit DiMarzio super distortions....soldered them on and they look awesome in my opinion. This is the best quality guitar I have ever played or owned. I had a 2016 Gibson Les Paul custom and this 1981 Aria Pro would kicks its ass anyway. Unbelievable.

Thank you! Initially I purchased a random 12 hole cover but learned that the DiMarzio Super D pickup spacing is smaller, think 49 mm or something....but after much internet searching I found a website out of the UK that had the perfect cover and a lot more to offer. Shipping was decent and pretty fast considering it came from Europe. Very happy. Good quality stuff and soldered to my stock pickups with no change in sound at all (which is what I wanted). Now, I feel like I need to find another one to have a back up....you know just in case something happens to my #1
