One more example for "specifications subject to change." Is it a 58 burst? No. A 67 Strat. Again nope. with a set neck it is most likely a 500. In any case it is a PE which sets it above and beyond an LP, spittle in the eye of GyppedEm. The last thing you'll see hanging on my wall is a Les Puke. After having owned numerous PEs there is no way I would ever revert. Fact is you have a PE which in my opinion is light years ahead of any similar single-cuts past or present.

Here's another PE450 with a set neck. There are several online.

This does not surprise me. Mine is an 81 and another thing that is different is mine says PE-450 just after the last fret on the fingerboard.

Not only did Matsumoku change specs but the same model sometimes varied from region to region depending on the market.

We only have a few catalogs that cover the bat ear PEs. Maybe it is time to update the info.

Hi folks, this is my first post.

I have had a PE-450 bolt neck for a few years (part payment for a job for Sony!) and recently bought one with a set neck (and it does have the PE-450 sticker below the last fret). The set neck is definitely earlier and the materials are a little different. The body of the bolt neck is mahogany and the set neck is maple. The set neck is also a little heavier, closer to my R80 and much heavier than my R60.

The only other real difference is in the head stock script and the size of print on the truss rod cover. The script on the set neck is inlaid and the bolted neck is raised above the surface.

Talking of head stock script I have a question about the R80 & R60, but I'll put it in a new thread later.

And the overwhelming evidence is in! I'll make this thread sticky since it contains updated info. Now if we can just get our hands on a catalog that covers it. :D

Thank you for clearing this up for us. Let's find those catalogs. I'm sure they're somewhere.

Hopefully these 450's are lighter than my 1978 PE-1500. The 1500 is a boat anchor and I can't stand it.
I might even sell it. It isn't neck heavy, it's body heavy and isn't comfortable to sit with.
It's over 10 lbs! :bawl: I much, much, much prefer my VE-570. :)

Good morning.
The 450's are definitely lighter than the PE1500. But as I always say, you want the tone and sustain, you pay your dues. I use very wide straps to deal with the weight of my heavy PE's and others. It helps a lot. If you want to sell yours, I might buy it if the price and condition of the guitar is right. Have a great day.
