86 RS-Bobcat-V for $214 including shipping. It is going to need a little work and shows a little wear but keep in mind it is 35 years old. I already have a Bobcat, this one will be going to an aspiring young virtuoso that has moved beyond a beginner guitar. At least I get to play it for a while. :D

NIIIICE! There is (or was) one, also black over here listed simply as a RS Series ARIA just a short time ago. Price asked was too high for me to even consider and I wasn't sure which model it was. Didn't have enough spare pennies anyway...

Yeah, most are asking a tad too much for me as well simply because they are "Matsumoku" and/or "vintage". I paid $249 for my RS-Bobcat which was a fairly reasonable price. After shipping, tone mod, DPDT switch and new strings I have about $280 in it. Worth it to me. I plays like butter.

That's awesome Crusty. My first real guitar at 16 was a first run RS and I still have it.
Like most Matsumoku guitars, the RS models are severely underrated.

So very true! They make a stratocaster look like a trashocaster.

The only thing I am not fond of is the scratchplate mounted jack. One good yank on the guitar cable in the wrong direction and disaster strikes. A right angle to straight guitar cable serves the same purpose but is not suitable for body mounted jacks. I had several of these but it has been so long (since the Knight Warrior) they have gone AWOL. Had to order a couple more. It serves as a breakaway if the cable gets yanked leaving the jack intact.

Just a coincidence my breakaway for standard body mounted jacks gave up the ghost recently. It is basically a 1/4' coupler with a 1' patch cable. Acts the same way as the right angle above. Saved the jack on more than one occasion. The 1' goes in the guitar, then the coupler, then the long guitar cable.

Got it finished. New Wilkinson Hot single coils, DPDT push-pull tone pot for bridge pickup mod and tone mod. The action is right down on the fingerboard and the Wilkies sound fantastic! A lot of output yet still have that traditional single coil tone. The PO had a shim under the neck then raised the trem way up in the air but I'm not sure why. I took it out and the action is perfect without it. This thing just like the earlier RS-Bobcat, it is a stratkiller.

Looks very tasty with those white Wilkies in there! :goodjob:
('big fan of Trev Wilkinson's guitars and gear)

The only SSS guitar I have is a Westone Concord, which I like a lot. The RS might be a nice compliment, except. . .I just don't get off on elongated horns on a guitar!
(He said, with an Urchin in his avatar at the moment!) :toopid:
