Good morning.
I have two Aria pro II PE 1000 with pickup rings and no serial numbers.
After years of buying different PE Matsumoku models, PE R80.s, R60's, B&G, 1000's, 1500's,which I own several of each, I've been thinking these with the rings and no serial were for distribution in America only for some reason. Any input or thought about it will be really appreciated.
Thank you.

I've been trying to post photos, but it won't let me. It say that file is too large.
Any ideas how to upload them?

If you are trying to upload pics from or taken by your phone without processing/resizing then yes, they are likely too large. Resize them to no more than 800px in either direction and they should be fine. The reason the file size limitation is in place is because we are limited on disk space. My phone camera's default size is 4032 x 3024 for example.

Also you could use Google Drive if you have a Google account.

Looks like the serial number has long since faded away. Not unheard of. I have a Vantage and the only way to read the SN is at the right angle with the right light. Give it another 10 years and it will probably be gone. I had a PE-R60 that was the same way. The SN was almost completely gone. I could only make out the fist two number, the others had gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Looks like the PO upgraded the pickups. The PE-1000 came with Protomatic I pickups where the 1500 came with DiMarzios. If you compare the tuners were modeled after Grover tuners which were popular at that time. I'm pretty sure the pickups (except this case) and fingerboard are what differentiate between the 1000 and 1500.

All in all a sweet guitar! I'm :D with envy! I have the same bridge on my PE-450 and I absolutely love it! Unbelievable sustain and the intonation will accept just about any gauge strings a player could want.

No Crusty. There was a Aria Pro II distributor in North Carolina in the 70's and 80's, and the PE1000's from that area, have the pickup rings, and no serial numbers. I live in Miami Florida, and I've seen two more of these. That's why I wondered if it was only for distribution in America or not. I own two more PE1000's but those do have serial numbers and no rings on the pickups. Anyway, you're right about these guitars being awesome. They definitely feel tighter than my Les Paul's.

I stand corrected. :D

One amazing thing about Shiro Arai Co. and Matsumoku was you could spec out your guitar if you were willing to wait for it to be made and shipped. When I got my first CS-350 I was asked if I wanted to special order with my own specs such as Grover or Schaller tuners and Dimarzio pickups. I thought about it but wanted the guitar right there and then, I was smitten. :hyper: Dealers were also afforded this flexibility so it could very well be the dealer ordered them that way. Not too sure why there would be no serial number but best guess that was left to the dealer. In any case I suspect those are unique to that dealer.

How do those pickups sound? I had no use for the Classic Powers in my PE-R80s (MMK-75). Low output at best. The Protomatic I seems on the low output side to me as well when compared to the MMK-45s in my Cardinals. Is there a model number or brand name on those pickups?
