Ya know, I should just stop looking at the guitar ads altogether.
Now that I've moved to sunny St. Catharines, I just assumed most interesting offers would be light years away from me. And for the most part that has been true.

However...I keep stumbling over Granada branded instruments down here. I'm still kicking myself for passing up the chance to pick up an absolutely beautiful acoustic just after the new year. Going dirt cheap, but I was dirt broke. :banghead:

Now I find this interesting carcass of a Granada which appears to be a late 60's or early 70's Aria 1202 or thereabouts. (Granada was a re-branded Mats series sold in Canada mostly to music schools):

CAD$60!

It's a pity it's missing her pickups, because they were really nice sounding IIRC. Still, a pretty straight forward restoration, EXCEPT for that bloody great hole where the tone pot was!

:toopid: Looks like the dude opened it up to pull out the electronics! God knows we've seen worse in here, I remember one of Frenchy's that someone had sawed a big rectangle out of the back! But still...

IF I was to pick this up what suggestions can I get from the learned folk here as to what to do with that hole? I'm thinking about a plate of some sort. Bloody shame, right on the burst too.

Update:
I contacted the owner and he's added a couple more pix. That hole looks like it was for a strat style input jack?! And we have a chip on the head stock. I'm negotiating. Dunno if I want to get into this or not.

Walk away, would be my feeling; that hole's a doozy and a cover plate will look pretty ugly on that burst, eh!

Yeah I know. The seller's willing to go to $50, but right now I cannot figure out what to do with those holes! Any sort of plate will look weird. I thought I might get away with a varitone style of control but it's just too big.

I posted over at Westone as well to see if anyone there has any ideas before I decline to buy. Poo! I had visions of maybe using some foil pickups in this one.

I'm thinking a baseball bat to the head of the perpetrator. . . :toopid:

What a shame. Possibly the varitone could be made to cover that hole but it looks like you'll need something for the volume hole as well.

OK Johnny, I have decided to take your original advice to me and "walk away" from this one. I did figure out what I think would be a nice solution but in truth, I have too many things to do with the "new" house this summer and I only have so much time and energy eh?

Pity. These really are nice playing guitars.

I think that's possibly the wisest option, Barry... shame, but! :(

Interesting, in the states Grenada was a second brand for Guild for a while. Then they switched to the Madeira name. They appear to have had somthing for Iberian names. I wonder if the switch was due to the Canadian name.
