I inherited an Aria Les Paul from a friend with a 6 digit serial no. starting with 0. All In found is that serials from 1980+ start with the according year (first digit), but they are supposed to have 8 digits. So is my guitar from 1980 or ist this something else?

Here's a photo of the neck plate and the guitar. It has chrome knobs and a 3 button tross rod cover (which is missing).

The serial numbers on the older Aria neck plates that include "STEEL ADJUSTABLE NECK" have no bearing on the date of manufacture but normally indicate early to mid 1970s.

Another way to date your guitar is by the pickups. If it's equipped with Maxon pickups (which is possible, because my 70ties PE-120 and PE-125 have them), their is a stamp on the back. The second number is the year number. So 5 for 75, 6 for 76 etc.

Hope this helps, Rob.
