I've been restoring a Gold Aria 5522. Multi-ply construction with a bolt on neck. From what I can tell its from 1970-1974. Does anyone here know if this is one of Uncle Matts or was it built prior to Matts involvment? Nice old guitar, but the hardware is really cheap.

Hello rayspang. Welcome to the boards.

If my understanding of Matsumoku's involvement with Aria is correct, all Japanese Arias built from some point in 1964 through some point in 1986 (& serialized into 1987) are Matsumoku.

That would make your 5522G an Uncle Mat.

It isn't uncommon to find very good woodwork & substandard hardware (ESPECIALLY bridges & tin & wire-frame jazz tailpieces) on a MAT.

Feel free to post pics any time. :D
