My wife bought me this guitar in 1986 for an 10 year anniversary present . It was made in Japan and has the model LW350RBS. It seems to be mahogany front and back. This guitar still plays great.

Can you tell me when it was made as I can not find any information on that model number on any site?

Hello Knarf and welcome here.
That's a beautifully finished guitar!
You say your wife bought it for you in 1986, was it new or used at the time do you know?
I stand to be corrected but believe this is likely quite older than '86.

Whatever the age, she's a keeper...so's your wife! :D

Your right, both are keepers. BTY.. she got a diamond so it came out even. We bought it used and I have looked through all the old catalogs that show the LW series, but they don't show any 350. Any back ground info will be appreciated.

:dunno: Nothing yet.
I wouldn't give up hope though. Sometimes folks get busy and it takes a bit of time for the "right" member to drop by.

Meantime, all I can do is reiterate that this is likely pre-1980. The serial number LW350RBS is a clue but interpreting it is problematic when made before the Matsumoku era. Here's some information from the AriaGuitars.com archive page:
Quote:
Dating Aria Guitars
Dating Aria guitars is a mix of fair precision and historical triangulation. The early guitars did not contain serial numbers, so you have to go by the rough historical outlines here. There are no pot codes. In the mid-'70s serial numbers began to be used. At least for Aria guitars made by Matsumoku, the serial number contains the year of manufacture in the first one or two digits (Y##### or YY####). Thus, a guitar from 1979 might begin with 79####. One from 1981 might begin with 1#####. The scheme becomes less sure after 1987. Some Korean- made guitars use a serial number with year and week indicated in the first four digits (YYWW####). Thus 9628#### would be from the 28th week of 1996. However, this is not the case on all guitars, and some have serial numbers which are not date-coded.

Based on this information it doesn't look to be a Mats guitar. But even Aria's own archives are sketchy at best. If you check this page you get an idea about the LW model line but nothing specifically relating to yours. These are all Mats and later references: http://www.ariaguitars.com/int/00int_main/archives_acgtr01.html
We can assume from this that the L is simply the model line designation, which also includes 12 stringed models. W probably stands forWestern as in "Country and Western". RSB was used in the Mats era as a designation for their Rock Solid Bass line, but RBS may just be a reference to the finish.

Hope this helps, a little.
