Just lovely to look at and to play!! Nice score indeed!

Anyone else noticed that most of these 912s have surfaced in Canada?!?!

No.

..but Vantage, I believe, was originally a Canadian focused brand, no?

Beautiful guitar! Congratulations.

Yes, Vantage is Canadian (Jam industries). But let me tell you one of the 900 Club secrets:
You can't find a Vantage 912! These guitars choose their Players by themselves! :P

But they were MIJ, and didn't Squid used to live not too far from the main warehouse in NY?! Anyway, i still think its a little odd that the only 900 series basses I've seen, as well as the 12s, have ALL been in Canada!

In fact, apart from 3 900s here in Australia and maybe 2 in France, even they're a thin on the ground!

The Vantage line was developed by Mr.Matsura (Matsumoku), in cooperation with the Canadian distributor Marty Golden (Jam industries/Montreal) and the US distributor Ernie Briefer (Music Technology Inc./NY). Things started in Montreal. "Vantage" was Marty Golden's idea and the Vantage brand was widely spreaded in Canada by his Company. Worldwide Distribution started later (1980) and that's the reason why Vantage guitars are easier to find in CAN/US, especially around Montreal or New York.

Looking at Europe's second hand market I'd say that VANTAGE was big in Germany and France. There have been distributors in the UK, Italy and Scandinavia too, but the brand doesn't seem to be very common there.

Dunno how popular Vantage has been in Japan or Australia......

However, Vantage's VA-series guitars are pretty rare on both sides of the pond! :P

It wasn't a warehouse, it was just an office...I'm drawing a blank now. It was in Floral Park and Garden City NY at different times. Their reps would go around to the local music stores and try to get them to stock Vantage (and maybe others, too). Lots of literature and occasional sample guitars. Wow, I'm forgetting lots of details. "Music Industries Corporation", maybe?
