Here we go, ladies and gents....the next missing piece for our VANTAGE puzzle.
VANTAGE ACOUSTIC GUITAR CATALOG from 9/1982
In French!
Printed in Japan for the French distributor "codim-france" in Lyon.
Contains the 1982/83 range of VANTAGE VA guitars.
The VA line is the successor line of the older VW guitars (1979 - 1982/83)

Lot of useful information in the specs sites, hope you can read the tiny letters
If not, feel free to ask me! My french is a bit rusty, but there's still enough left from what I've learned at school to translate most of the text. :P

J.

Thanks, Vantage acoustics turn up around me from time to time. It would be nice to have a primer on which ones were likely to be MIJ when the seller doesn't specify.

Terrific! Thanks so much for this.
I too have been seeing the occasional VA model and wasn't sure if they were Mats or not.

I just checked my French-English dictionary.

"Acajou" is "mahogany".

"Dos bombe" probably translates as "arched back".

"Pan coupe" means "cut(away) side".

"Taille" also means "cut".

I suspect that "folk" is an Anglicism.

Francophones, please help us out!

thanks Bohop!

I believe "taille folk" to be "folk size" = smaller than a jumbo or a dreadnought!
Some kind of an OM or a Grand Auditorium if we think in Martin sizes.

I wonder why they call the VA 10, 12, 20, 25 models "Jumbo"!
They look like ordinary dreadnoughts.
But they do have flat backs, while the VA 30, 40, 50 models are built with "Vantage Full-Sonic" arched backs.
And their necks are made of nato wood, while the necks of the better lines are made of mahogany.

Fretboards on all guitars: (Indian) rosewood

Only the top line (the VA 50s) is built with a fretboard that reaches into the oval soundhole to provide two frets more for the B and E strings (only).

COLORS:
VA-10 LT: natural mat
VA-10 DK: mahogany mat
VA-12: natural mat
VA-15 LT: natural brilliant
VA-15 DK: mahogany brilliant
VA-20: tobacco brown
VA-25: antique brown
VA-30 DOK: dark oak burst
VA-30 ACS: wild cherry burst
VA-40 S: antique violin burst
VA-50 S: antique tobacco burst
(The other models are natural)

Electrics:
VA-40 E, VA-40 12 E: pickup + volume knob
VA-40 CE, VA-40 12 CE, VA-50 LCET: pickup + volume knob + tone knob

Typical for ALL VA models: the oval soundhole

Terrific info (as usual) again, Mozart  :thanks:
I really need one of those E/CE/CET models (for free, or trade against a solid electric Vantage  ).

I've tried, doesn't look like it worked, though...
