Hello all

I have recently picked up a Vantage VS-650, beautiful guitar but a previous owner has replaced the pickups and the wiring is a confusing mess. They were obviously trying for something different but I’m not sure what. To be fair, the guy I bought it from did warn me that the wiring was ‘a little funky’ and would need some attention. I would like to return it to stock (sadly minus original pickups), I was wondering if anyone had a diagram of the original wiring for this model (two volume, two tone, coil split switch) or is able to take a photo of the stock wiring in an unaltered model? There is a photo at https://www.vantage-guitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/vs-650-g06-30.jpg but it’s not clear if that is original or modified, it certainly has different pots to mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome Shooter.
The pots in that pic look to be factory. Could your pots/wiring have been replaced along with the pickups?

Yes I think they probably were, the ones in that photo appear to be 500 whereas these are 250. The caps seem to have been changed too. Do you happen to know what the original capacitors were?

A few of the guitars I've had where I installed higher output pickups I had to replace the 250s with 500s. Just a little bit would bleed through rolled all the way back.

Normal tone cap is 0.022 microfarads.

Hello Shooter,

I happen to have a VS-650. I made some photo's of the wiring and I made a wiring diagram. You should be able to restore the original wiring now. If not, I can always make more photo's

Good luck, Rob

Sorry Rob, I only just saw this. Exactly what I was after, hugely appreciated!
