I've been looking for awhile for a X-99, not many around. Then one came up for sale and red which is what I wanted. :hyper: I got it yesterday, cleaned it up, new strings, adjust the neck and the string height, just enough to get it going. It plays nice, it's a keeper! Bridge PU was replaced, gold hardware faded, a couple of headstock chips but good enough for me. PU selector needs to be replaced. No 3rd strap button

They are impressive, aren’t they?! Mine is the flat black but it gets used every day, simply because it is just SO easy to play!

You know the mini switches are series/coil split/parallel, yes?

Corsair, yes there are impressive and heavier than they appear to be. I just read that they're neck through.

I've also read that the mini switch controls 1 single coil, then humbucker, then the other single coil.
Maybe that's what you're mean with "series/coil split/parallel"?

I'm getting about 1K out of the Duncan bridge PU. The mini switch appears to work for this PU.
I get 16K out of the neck M53 PU and the mini switch does nothing.

It's another project for me :(

Thanks Frenchy. Once I saw your X-99, I had to get one myself. I think it's the first guitar that I've played that I can feel a vibration in my torso.
I guess because it's neck through. I'm going to be replacing the PU covers and tailpiece because they're faded. The knobs are glued on to the pots and
the pots are good so I'll leave that alone.

Now I won't dog you about selling yours and you can sleep with both eyes closed :D

Nice grab and a good grab since would never sell mine...lol

These are somewhat hard to find, I think production was a little down compared to previous years. The late 83 and 84 models seem to be harder to find... Well I use to say that about the VA900 model but now have 7 of them...lol

The X-99 family id very nice, have both the the red Guitar and Bass, have the headless bass, have the mat black guitar.

Missing the Tobacco sunburst guitar and bass and the Mat Black bass... I will eventually find them. I wont give up ! :P
