I've worked my way through the old logo-threads: sticking to the first digit=year-theory always bringing out a lot of confusion.
For example: VP700 with snr. 72... being from 1977, with V-Logo !!! VLP, snr. 05....from 1980 with horizontal (old) logo.
Doesn't make sense!
If we throw away the "old" dating theory, it will sure help to solve some Vantage mysteries!!

Exception: 7 digit-serialnumbers on the V-neckplates: First digit=year . Well working method from my point of view!

J.

VA800 Phantom/22 frets: 80...
VA800 24 frets: 81...
VP700: 72...
VLP pre '80/old neckplate: 05....

Always the same first two digits.
Too much correspondence to be by chance !!!

VA912: 00....
But that's just mine

sorry, correction:
VA912 : 00 = first digits
(second digit is hard to read at my 12-string because of the walnut stripe!)

Does your VA900 have a 00.... serialnr., Don ?

I really believe that the change over happened around the start of 1980 ... Changing production from these older style guitars would have required re-tooling ... They all would have ceased production when the change over was made ... the new logo goes hand in hand with the total differences in the guitars.

Strong arguments. I'll review my earlier findings, looking at them from this new perspective  Guess you've overthrown most of the Vantage 'facts' as we knew them

Hi Barry, I firmly beleive that catalogue is a 1979...I think your Acoustic is definately pre 1980.
What tuners are fitted to it?

They're plain chrome, sealed : http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5429#p31650

Hi Kees, there's a tiny difference between VA900 and VA912. Think I'd better send you my VA912 , so you can have a look on it by yourself......

Ah ha! That explains why a couple of 'em were so tight and needed a squirt of lubrication!
