OK

I have done the best I could do on virtually little sleep and zero brains.
I hope you guys enjoy.
It came with the tear drop brown case (I remember my first electric-was a VP710 came with the same style case from Steve's Music in Toronto) I don't have it anymore and wished I'd never loaned it out.
Anyhow... she is a really nice guitar!!! virtually brand new.
Note to Barry: it was the most recent posting to Craig's that you may have saw a couple of days ago. It was an ad with the guitar set against a powder blue wall. Simple ad. 2 pictures and a very very brief description and I paid the asking price in the ad which was $100.00 Canadian.

And finally the naughty bits I know all you guys want to see......
Can anyone tell me what the numbers mean...?
And also for your listening pleasure, the coil tap switch only seems to affect the bridge position.
The pup selector SW and all the pots need to be sprayed and cleaned. It should do the trick.

Ooooh, nice!!

A 61 and a 53 - cool!! My 900 is 53s in both positions and the 61s are generally found on the semi-hollows, eh!? $100? You did good!!

How does it play?

OOOH Graham, that's a beauty! And for $100 !?
I've got to start looking at Craigslist, I usually don't bother with it, mostly Kijiji. Completely missed that one.
Unbelievable score my friend!

I have the same pickups in my VP710 **(the bolt on version) **...just amazing. You'll love 'em. They've gotta sound out of this world on a neck thru.

p.s. epoxy, super glue, etc, is generally not recommended to seat a nut since you'll likely destroy the wood if it needs replacing or adjusting. But with brass you'll likely not need worry about wearing it out.

p.p.s. You asked about the numbers.
• The handwritten one in the pocket is a manufacturing code, probably relating to the finish and/or the hardware to be used.
• The MMK61 is an Alnico 5
• The MMK53 is a ceramic magnet but different composition from the 45
• According to Mozart's research this should be a 1982 build

** edit: Ooops! What was I thinking? It's set neck!

Here is the nut before the separation. You can see how nice it cleaned up after in the previous pics.
So here's the big questions...

what model? is it in fact an VA 810?
serial number 82080... other than stating its an 82 build, what are the remaining numbers? unit number? is there a month?
PLEASE guys,.... I don't want to seem doubtful or insulting or dumb here but a collective answer would be soothing to know

and what is the output on the pup's?
and has Trevor been made aware of another guitar to add to his quest for numbers?

Thank you to Barry for the helpful info so far.
AND yes !!! it plays really nice however...its a different scale length..? correct me if im wrong...?

Geez calm yerself. So many questions!

• Mozart's been able to mainly determine the year from the serial # which was not easy BTW. The rest is guess work.
There are 2 possible interpretations: 8 = the model # 2 = the year of build ('82) 080 = the production #
OR, 8=Model and 2080=production number. I tend to go with the first one. We really need Johann to sort this out. (where are ya anyway?)

• The stain/finish is called Harvest Ash, same as mine

• Trevor is mainly interested in tracking Aria Pro II's at this time AFAIK but if he's tracking Vantage too he'll likely grab it if needed, but send him a PM if you like

• Your model number? Not sure. Dunno enough about the VP line but it's almost certainly a VP8xx series. The pix on the information page shows a VP820 and it's a set neck. http://www.matsumoku.org/models/vantage/vp/vp-820/pics.html (Oh Johann?)

• My pick up readings are: Neck 7.73K MMK61 Bridge 11.39K MMK53 if that helps

I am sorry I came across all guns there Barry.
My badd
...it's just that since I've found this incredible site, I have not been able to contain myself. :hyper:
I can explain...
we all here as guitar players, and such, can remember the very first guitar we owned.
Mine was a VP 710.
It was bought in the 80's at Steve's Music in Toronto.
I have had many guitars since then and I will admit that I've been a cheapskate through out my maturing years In fact there are guitars here in my collection that are maybe worth 50 bucks.
My point is this,
to the creators of this site,
I salute and applaud all the efforts to make it the way it is. I am like a kid in a candy store to be able to voice and contribute with my comments and my pics.
I TOO AM A MAT"S Guitar FAN !!!!
This latest find of mine I know has a place here in the history of Matsumoku and wanted to share it with the members of this site.
I hope that makes my impatient barrage of question seem to sting less.
