Yes, I'm the one behind the site http://www.vantage-guitars.com/. It's a tribute to Vantage Guitars MIJ.

I bought one in 1986, and then another one....

So I thought I should find out more about my guitars. A Google-search led me to this forum. Wow, was the first thought I got when I saw how much information there was about this topic. And I've been learning more and more ever since.

If you take a look at my source-page you guys are on the top of the list. And thank you all for sharing your knowledge. It couldn't been done without you.

The webpage was made to help me find some system in all this models, and as I learned factories. If someone else find it useful I'm happy to spread the information.

Still reading....

Johan Arne

Hi Im new here and not sure if this is the right place to ask but here is my guitar. I am having trouble finding anything about it. It is a cutaway acoustic electric. The inside has stamped with red letters on a wood rectangle AV - SCEDWL. There are no numbers on it anywhere just made in Japan. I bought it many years ago at a second hand guitar shop. Nothing is stamped on the back. Any thoughts?

Edit: I see the numbers 806213 also stamped on the inside in blue, had to look hard to find it.

Thanks all

Hi Firebird 1, please don't double post, it causes confusion.
We note your original request elsewhere and someone should comment on it shortly. Thanks.

I bought a Vantage-badged Strat copy hard tail with brass hardware, a thru neck and several laminations of beautiful woods in 1979. It had a gold sticker, long since gone, that said, "made in Japan" on it affixed to the back of the head stock. I've never seen a serial number and I suspect it was a re-badged el Maya because the decal Vantage used is the same font as the el Maya versions I've seen online.

Does it have a model name in the Vantage lineup or was it just an early entry into the Canadian Market cribbed from another manufacturer?

Thanks in advance for any information you can offer me.

Vantage was a brand all it's own. The same guitar may have been available under a different name as Matsumoku contracted with a number of labels.

Pics of it would be helpful if you can upload some.

There has been an addition to the Vantage catalogs. Check here:

http://www.matsumoku.org/models/vantage/catalogs.html

Most of the images I can find for El Maya have a different logo font than the Vantage. Vantage used the Vivaldi font.

Most of the El Maya images that come up on Google look more like those made by Terada or FujiGen Gakki. At least those that have a transmit neck anyway.

Thanks for your response, Crusty. I've added a link to pictures of the guitar at the bottom of my original post.

Like these? I found a web site that suggests el Maya were produced by Chushin Gakki and distributed by Rokkoman. I dig the look.
