Hi, I'm ba-a-a-a-ck!

Thank you for all the advice [and so quick, too!]

Going by your responses, I've settled on $450.00 as a reasonable price. My friend agreed readily.

Mozart: I agree - these are fantastic guitars, and I would keep her except, because of a shoulder problem which I've developed, the extra reach needed to play the 24 fret neck, although small, was enough to cause me severe pain after about 15 minutes of playing.

So I bought a Hagstrom Swede [22 fret] and can now play for hours without suffering any discomfort.

Many thanks again to all for your help! :)

@ Phantom800: I've played some of the NEW Hagstroms a couple of months ago. Good value for a reasonable price! Nice guitars with character, better than any epiphone in the same price range!!

But the real winner is: tätäärrräätääää!!! - YOUR FRIEND  :D

@mozart: Agreed, the winner is my friend!

I feel like a winner as well - the Swede has such a low, fast action it makes you laugh. You just lay your fingers on the strings - almost no pressure needed. And the pick-ups and workmanship are fantastic. Another friend who has an American Fender tried the Hag and immediately asked me if I wanted to trade! (Not likely - his Fender plays like an old Harmony cheese grater in comparison to the Swede!)
I'd have to go with Hagstrom as todays' champ. :D

I've made some updates at the Vantage model chronology.
ALL electric 6 and 12 strings we've seen or talked over on this board, have now found their place in the time line.
I've added all the MIJ Vantage acoustic guitars I've heard of. Supplementations or contributions welcome!
Vantage bass guitars will follow!

cheers, J.

Hi mozart!

I just noticed a couple of little details that nobody has mentioned before. At the bottom right corner of the second page of the 1983 Spec Sheet it says "Printed in Japan (0483)". Also in the lower left corner of the "Born to Rock" catalog is the number "1282". I believe that these 4-digit numbers are the dates when these documents were printed. This might prove useful.

The more I look into this stuff, the more impressed I am with the job you've done putting together this history. Thank you!

Great observations, Bohop! Never noticed that, but surely important!

Thanks. It's great fun for me, to help to put together this Vantage mystery puzzle!
Thanks for your contribution! I'll have another look at my original late '79, early '80 Vantage folder to find some dating digits.... :D

EDIT: There are different ways of getting a better view of the Vantage history:

My start is to read ads, articles, threads and the www infos.
Frenchy's way is to buy ALL the Vantage models ever built by matsumoku for direct comparison!

The reason for this contrary methods of investigation:

Mrs Frenchy and Mrs Mozart are different! :D
