Hi,
I'm new to the board and need your help.

I own an explorer style guitar (but it has sharper edges). The colour is nearly white (maybe from the ages it is now a dark white) with completly black neck.
The headstock says it's a Vantage. The plate where the neck is bolted has a big "V" "made in Japan" and a 6 digit serial (I'm her at work so for now i just remember it says something like D520085).
The electronics contains 1 Vol, 1 treb. (pull), 3 pu on/off., 1 Humbucker /bridge , 2 SC / middle/neck

Anybody any idea what this guitar is? I don't find anything about it.
I don't think it could be a rare and expensive one...but i like the sound...

Welcome here, Ed - we live for pictures here, eh so if you could whack a couple up, that'd help quite a bit with any identification, eh!! :)

Is it one of these, perhaps???

Hi Corsair,
no it's no Invader. It looks more like a mix Invader/Explorer and with HSS PU's. Never seen anything like her....

Pics are coming up this eve, because I'm at work...

Hi Ed, welcome to the forum!

Before the japanese Vantage production had to close it's doors in february '87, they've made some (few) guitars, not to find in the '84/'85 catalogue. One example is the Invader 5 from 1986. Your guitar could be from those last days of Uncle mat (1985/86)!

I'd really like to see pics of your guitar!

black neck:
The '84/'85 catalogue has introduced the "graphlex neck" on some models.
It ain't a graphite neck, it's simply a "graphite coloured" neck.
Think this was vantage's reference to the then very popular kramer guitars.

BTW, the "Invader 5" from 1986 has got a HSS pickup configuratian too!
There's a test review of this guitar in one of my 1986 FACHBLATT music magazines.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Explorer's hardware is similar! :loon:

Let's wait for pics..... :D
