I make it 8 -68. (It's upside down). Try scaling down the browser image and squinting.
Most likely a colour/finish code of some sort?

Ideas on getting a matte finish to look its best, please?! :)
I think the only safe way to attack this is to make sure you are using a 'cleaner' with a high water content as opposed to anything that would leave a shiny residue. In other words, wash it! I suppose naptha would be helpful on really dirty areas too.

Buff it lightly afterwards with something like a micro fibre cloth, and if you must, use a very light spray polish in order to help prevent future crud buildup. It's treading a line between cleaning and resisting the urge to polish it. Bugger eh? :loon:

I SO badly want to tear into it with a polishing rag......

I was thinking about the likes of dilute methylated spirits? Or ethyl alcohol?

Just got word our gear has arrived from the UK, so all of my tools and stuff are getting closer! Don very kindly gave me a Dremel when I was out there last weekend so I'm nearly set to go on th Urchin as well....

I get the same urge whenever I work on a "Road Worn" series of anything. Just want to make it all better!

Dunno. Should be OK as long as it flashes off quickly, I think that's the key.

I think that the Bendmasterbridge will fit, and the string spacing is pretty close as well; I don't know exactly what the difference Issa I don't have my calipers to hand, but gee.... They look pretty darn good!!

I'm not sure I'll actually do it yet, but it is nice to have the option! The original bridge worked just fine even if it is quite a bit below the manufacturing quality of the Bendmaster....

Thoughts, gentlemen.....

A little bump here, guys as the wiring on this has been driving me nuts for a year or so, on and off; I replaced the selector switch and the volume pots, and put a 45 in there .... because I could!!
However, when time came to put Humpty back together again, I had either lost or deleted the pix of the wiring, so I basically winged it with oh-so-predictable results; the bastard didn't work and do you think I could nut it out?! Not even roughly! Then the Urchin needed attention so it got put away.... till a while ago when I decided to have at it again....

With a little help from a Westone forumite, oh, alright then.... a lot of help!! - I've got the darn thing working!! Gee, it's a beast..... such a beast, in fact that I've bought it inside to have a decent play on it!

So good on ya, Mike...

Rightio, then... here we go; first of all, understand that my kit has to share living space with the childrens apparently endless supply of toys...

Image

...in the sun..

Image

Very easy guitar to play; sits well on the strap and once I've polished the frets it'll be easier to navigate the neck, too!

Image

Nice Avenger body style, with the odd pickup cover logos and the weird-ass el-cheapo bridge! Which seems to work just fine and stays in tune with an application of Nut sauce to the contact points.

Image

Headstock...

Image

Rear of h/s; Vantage branded tuners which are Gotohs and in pretty awful nick, really; they are sloppy and loose.

Image

Body rear. The red in the stylised in 'V' is my doing... The 3 springs on the trem arent all that tight at the minute and the bridge is VERY wobbly so a little tuning there to be done.

Image

Bridge floating nicely.. I've got it a little high as I was looking for a rhythm type sound so more projection; I've got plenty of lead instruments strewn about the place!! It is, however, still quite practical as a lead guitar, you just have to be a little careful!

Image

Pickups are quite low in an effort to calm the thing down! Bloody hell, it's LOUD and with the 45 I fitted has more than enough penetration for most applications! It will make your ears bleed if the pups were any higher... however, I may still raise them a little i=until the sound starts to lose definition, a trait it has in spades at the minutes; very clear, distinct chord voicing is possible even with reasonably heavy distortion on tap.

Image

Looks quite at home in the "inside" rack, don't you thinkl!

Nice! I think you can replace the plastic washer on the tuners and tighten them up a bit. At least that is what the grey cells are remembering.

Yeah, I think you're right, but getting the Vantage dust overs off without damaging them s the neat trick that I don't know!!
