Well, the 96 catalog says "set in neck" - but......it's YOUR guitar, Cudamax, and if she looks neckthrough to you, that's ok......
Whether neckthru or set neck - the most important thing is that you like her (in spite of the fact that she ain't Mat made). Samick has made some nice guitars too.
If you wanna play a "real" japanese Vantage neckthru, I highly recommend the VA-800 or 900 series!

$400 for a project guitar that you can't check out first? Not my name.

400 seems too much to me, too. Besides, the marker dots appear to be brass, and the placing of the tuners seem kinda funny. I suspect this to be a Cort (Korea) made Mann/Gumika, not a Matsumoko made Vantage VA800 'Phantom'.

Regarding the topic...

A couple of years ago I saw a 928GDT on eboink, almost certain it was neck thru...
Googled an image: http://www.dcc.fc.up.pt/~pribeiro/images/guitar2.jpg
Definitly Korean made, still pretty cool.

Now THAT may very well be a neck thru. Without seeing the back, we can only guess. I have pics of the OP guitar.

Alright Ill post photos of my new Babys neck scarf joints which by the way are just like a Charvels model 6 neck and man do I love this thing. The neck is really nice and of all my Guitars this is one of just a couple that the Intonation is right on and it plays Frick-in Great
