The color combination of shirt and sofa makes it impossible to notice any guitars on the pics! :eek2: :look:
But i think I would like that VS696 very much!

Glad we're not the only ones to "hear" it that way!! We recorded both guitars, on all settings with the tones and EQ on the amp set flat to A/B them; unsure what to do with the .mp3s now, however...

Upload them to our shared Dropbox account, duh!

I'll take it from there & post up public links.

Maybe you remember, my VS696-12 had vintage Seymore Duncan's when I got her (and still). So comparison on 'bite' in the sound would be unfair here. But where playability is concerned, I regard the VS as a good work horse, where the VA912 practically plays itself  So smooth, almost as easy as a 6-string VA900. Maybe one should try a set of 45's in a 912? (If anyone is daring enough, good luck on the modifications. )

Here's something I had posted a while back re: my 695-12:

"My VS-695-12 (1982, dual MMK53? humbuckers w/coil taps) reads 11.07K/5.61K & 10.57K/5.5K with the pickups still in the guitar. HOT for a 12-string! I generally play it with both single coils in phase for clean."

Nah, just think of it as a musical episode of the Almighty Johnsons--without he lightning bolts! :D

Hey John, thanks for recording those demos/comparisons (and for playing that bloody lick over and over!)
I'm sure the playability of the VA is superior but the VS hits my ear holes more favourably somehow.

The 12 string seems to be making a small revival in young bands of late, along with the semi-acoustics like ES335's and Gretsch's. Nice to hear them again. Ironically, I was just viewing a video of the Eagles ahead of coming here. They were playing Hotel California at their Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inauguration; Felder on a 12/6 double neck SG, Frey on an acoustic 12 and some other unidentifiable player also on a 12 acoustic.
That's roughly (counts on fingers) 36 strings right there, not including Walsh on his Tele. :P

Thanks, Squid! Yeah.... We do talk funny, eh!

And if I recall correctly, we did lift the pups out of the 912 2 years ago, and I'm reasonably sure they, too, are 53s....

Barry; that's the way I hear it as we'll!!
