OK, gang... this is where I'm at now...

Image

... the body with the silver guide coat. I'm pretty much decided to go with a purple burst over a silver/lavender pearl...

Image
...pickup; insane values; 12.8/6.3ohms

Image

... headstock as I envisage it, perhaps with Dad's name engraved on the TRC? Too much??

Image
This needs some work. How do I do this, people; just sand it back and recoat with what??

Image
Some nice Westone Pantera machine heads.

Image

1st choice, atm... with the NZ aircraft marking between the neck and pickup??

Image

2nd choice...

Image

3rd choice; RNZAF F4U-1D over Rabaul harbour, 1945.

So.... come on lads; thoughts please!! Either of these pix will be done by the bloke who did the Urchin burst; I'm gonna have a crack at doing the major paintwork...
..wish me luck! Santa may well be bringing me an airbrush..

1 or 3. That fretboard looks gnarly. If you are up for doing your own re-fret. I would pull the frets and go after the board with a radius sanding block and refin.

+1 on the radius block. Tru-oil would probably be the easiest refin.

A little bump here as I've stripped everything I'd done to date back to the wood on the advice of my painter who reckoned the surface, which was showing the grain and which I quite liked, was not suitable for what I had planned. *sigh*

I'll take a picture later on today, but I've sanded it back, laid a coat of polyester across the surface and sanded that back with grades up to 800, so hopefully, this time it's good to go!!

The headstock is done; well, painted, flatted back and polished up; I need to put the embellishments on now; the pilots wings, medal ribbons and the TRC with Dads name on it....

I have a quandary, fellas; I think the bridge has to go, not because it's a barrel saddle, but because its brass, which will not go with the colours. So, do I go for a black bridge which will match the pick up surround, or chrome to balance the new, shiny tuners?

Leaning towards chrome, to be honest....

Thoughts?

Hee hee... don't you worry, bud; I was all over that thread!! Would you post a couple of other pix of the guitar, please; I'd just to settle the issue in my own mind re. black.v.chrome!

I have to say, it look alright, doesn't it; it's certainly not too glaring a mix or anything....

The bridges I'm looking at cost A$7.09.... ; does that qualify me for 'cheap bastid' status?? Oh... and I make my own Bendmaster lock washers and shims from offcut steel scrounged from engineers!!
