I had a sad encounter today at the shop with a Yamaki Custom 12 string acoustic. :bawl:
You can read about it with pix here: http://forum.westoneguitars.net/t4887-knackered-yamaki-12-string

It looks to me like one of two things happened. It may have been left in a hot car. The glue softened and the neck block shifted. When all was hard again the stress caused the damage. This can be hard to detect as everything stays glued, no loose braces. The second possibility is it took a hard knock when something was holding the neck. The top could flex but the side of the neck joint cracked.

I would remove the neck and see what was going on.

Hey, that's an option only if you're a full service shop...which we ain't...and have all kinds of time...which we don't...and the customer has all kinds of money...which he doesn't.

Barry,

would humidifying with a damp towel ( super damp pit) help? Or maybe a Bridge Doctor?

Just wondering

Probably way too late in the game for humidification. And even if it isn't, I'm not sure how you'd flatten that puppy anyway, it certainly would not just "spring back".

A Bridge Doctor is not needed, since the bridge is fine (no rotation and no hump).

If you read the comments on the Westone thread I think the culprit is simply the fact that the 12 strings were under-braced and could not handle the tension.
