Either he's misinformed or he's trying to convince people its worth more because of its age. None of the Japanese makers, other than maybe Yamaha, were exporting anything of that quality of set neck in '69. At the earliest I'd say its from the late '70s, if not later.

Funny thing.....
It seems like it's only after I joined this board I've seen good Hondo's! In the 80ies and a bit later, the only ones I did seen were shoddy LOW-budged guitars, which were almost impossible even to tune.... So, you can say I'm pretty biased about this brand.
But, where the :x were the good Hondo's back then?? Good to see they made quality guitars too 8)

the most good hondo's they kept for them self , there was simply no market for high end hondo's outside of asia , the US and european market was dominated by fender and gibson at that time.
for cheap guitars there was a market , and that's why the most of them are bad guitars.
i own a DC model from hondo , a great guitar , blew me away when i plugged it in at home , bought it a fleamarket for 30 euro , the pu's are matsumoku smooth crash pu's , wich amazed me , so did uncle mat build for hondo at any moment in time?
maybe , or they just sold these pu's to hondo , i don't know this guitar changed my vieuw on hondo for ever.
