I bought a guitar in a pawn shop in Canada for 60 dollars. I had never seen a guitar like it before, and it played really well, but the shop keeper said he couldn't get rid of it because it didn't look like a fender or gibson. It is labeled Onyx, but looks very much like a VP. It is marked made in japan on the neck plate, and all of the hardware is exactly the same except that it has dual blade humbuckers and a really heavy duty output jack. It has a bolt on neck, two volume and two tone controls. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Were Vantage guitars copied by other makers or were they relabeled for export?

Nope, not quite a Vantage. Onyx was it's own label, and some of the models looked a good bit like the Vantage VP and VS series. Occasionally one will float through eBola.
