Wilbo
Thanks for the link. I had already seen this thread with tips from you and AP2 and went back to re-read it. I'm glad I did because there is also a good link to Frank Ford's frets.com page with more good stuff on working on the fretboard.
I like the way you numbered each step in it's own paragragh. It will make it easier to folow as I do the job. I've copied and pasted that thread along with other tips I find along the way to a document I'll print out when I'm ready to go for it.
I have the perfect guinea pig for this project. A Korean Aria STG that I gave my stepson which buzzez up and down the board. If that comes out half decent I'll then try it on the next victim. Like a friend's favorite guitar

Update: I finally got around to doing it. I'm so glad I did.
That fret level came out fantastic. It feels and plays like a new guitar.
I was a bit nervous going into it but I read everything and bought some good files
and other tools I didn't already have. So I felt confident armed with all the info that
I gleaned from here and other sources.
Go to the link below to read how AP2 and wilbo go about doing a great fret level.
Then read about my experience trying it for the first time.
Plus this thread has tons of great info for anyone thinking
about working on a guitar which you gotta do sooner or later.
Note:
The thread is called "The Ghost a.k.a. The Paul Copy" but don't let that fool you.
It is chock full of tech tips for everyone.
It is in 2 parts so click on "Next Page" to see it all.
Again thanks to yous guys who share the knowledge stored in your memory banks. jb
