I have a choice to make between these two guitars. I've already played the Yamaha (it's the solid spruce top model). Sweet, mellow tone, but still takes very well to overdrive. This one has some of the dreaded finish clouding, although it actually comes across as a patina more than a defect. I know little about the Daion other than looks and reputation. Both are solid players, similar price and condition. Any thoughts on these two would be most welcome. My heart says get both, but marital bliss might be at stake!

Hmm, both have good reps. If you don't like one over the other, I would go for the Daion. It is a bit more rare and thus unique. You are more likely to get a chance on a second Yamaha.

Yep, the brain is saying go for the Daion. I'll have an opportunity to do a side by side next week. I've never seen a Daion in person, so it may not be a hard decision for me once I do. From what I've read, the character of the two is very different, hence the fleeting thought of keeping both.

So, actually, it's just a choice between just the Daion or getting both. I can't see passing on an opportunity to own a Headhunter. Decisions, decisions.

Looks like there is no choice to make :D
Just get both and be done with it
And remember we want photos of both when you get them home.

You're absolutely right. And I'll have plenty of time to play both after I'm single again!

You know Eyebulger when people are coveting your guitars you really shouldn't be giving them blackmail material. You are married right?

Here's a quick shot of the Yamaha (sorry for breaking protocol, but all my white doors are in the laundry)

As one of the regular boardmembers that´s been into Daions for some time..
Get the 555.
You´ll never look back. Altho the Yamahas aint a dime a dozen either they´re friggin commonplace vs the HH.

A couple of notes on a HH though.
First of all,if you ain´t familiar, they sport a slightly V shaped neck. That..is not for all.

Second of all they IMO need a pup change. Keep the stockers AND the frames for them intact. The Daions that sport HB´s all carry the same pups, but where the rather "heavy metal" oriented pups in case works in a MkXX they are FAR over the top for the HH that either deserves PAF like HB or P94s in my opinion.
The OEM jobbies are three point ones. Ie; there´s three adjustment screws so you can adjust tilt too. These frames are about as commonplace as hens teeth..

Third..with the HH´s ONLY it is not unheard of that the OEM tonecaps, looks like bumblebees, presents problems. Oftenplace with hum you can´t really trace. If so just replace, but keep the stockers intact in the case.

That said the HH is one fantastic semi. To the point where it´s a friggin mind warp once you get used to it,and yes...they ARE as good as the tale tells..
Yamaha in this case is left dead in the water...no offense ment vs Yamaha in any way.
