The simple MIJ neck plate with six screws is a bit unusual as is the truss rod cover. These point away from Matsumoku. The details are rather like some later Tiesco and Kawai guitars that I have seen but that is hardly definitive.

I am pretty sure those knobs are not original, and those pickups, the bridge/tailpiece and the headstock shape all throw me... Every SG shaped bass I can locate a photo or pic of has 2+2 tuners, not 4 in a row...For some reason, the pickups say early Ibanez to me, but I am just not sure...

BTW, That "trussrod cover" is only a sticker that reads: "Steel Reinforced Adjustable Neck". The truss rod is accessed at the heel, via a notch in the pickguard.

OK, I have been doing more digging, and have found a bass on Ebay completed auctions that has the same headstock as mine, the same tuners, same bridge, and a very Teisco/Kingston looking body. Henway, it is apparently a "Sakai" : says so right on the plastic badge. Internet rumor is that these were Woolworth house brand guitars, possibly on the UK. So, I am OK calling it a Sakai.

Thanks!!

Usually plastic badges were added by the distributor to instruments they bought from factories unlabeled. This was cheaper than paying for a custom decal. If yours doesn't have a badge, it may never of had one or the badge may have come off.
