Hi guys,
I have a MIJ guitar but I'm not sure if it was built in Matsumoku plan, or even in what year it has been built..
It is the exact same one than the one in these pictures. As you can see, the headstock is a copy of Gibson's "open book" and the neck is bolt-on. There is a plate behind the guitar, where the neck is bolt, that says "made in japan", with a serial number (0056 and I forgot the rest...).
Do you guys have any information about this guitar? I saw somewhere that a seller was suggesting that it was a Matsumoku guitar, but I'm not sure at all...
Any ideas????

Cheers!

If it is Matsumoku it is very early. During that period many "houses" would sell to resellers and the components assembled elsewhere such the US or Europe. One would specialize in electronics where another (Matsumoku) would specialize in wood work. Good examples are Bruno, Pan, and Lyle.

I know I've seen an Aria guitar like this but I can't seem to find it now. Still looking. . .

EDIT

I believe its a 5102T. http://matsumoku.org/models/aria/hollow/sem/semi.html

There's one just like this at GC for $350. Only difference I see is humbuckers rather than single coils and that might just be for show.

There is one here: https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instru ... 1278235927
It says it's a Matsumoku, but I'm not sure if it's not just for the show...

The Aria 5102T was a popular Mats made guitar and commonly showed up under many labels. It is a great sounding guitar with its original single coil pickups. Those 'buckers are likely to be a mod.

Enjoy it!

Thanks guys! How is it possible to know if the pickups are original? Is there any distinctives marks?

The link I posted to a catalog shows humbuckers.

Have a look at this old post of mine.

It's from the same Aria model lineup and branded as Pan here in Canada. The configuration is slightly different but it should give you a better idea about the pickups of that era.
