Nice.....

It is quite different when you actually look at it and compare.... Cant wait to hear your conclusion on the build and origin of this beauty....

Yeah, interesting guitar...Uncle Mats meets Orville Gibson?? :loon:
There is a current Epiphone 333 that mimics this striped centre construction too (Tom Delonge model) although it's nowhere near as good as the real thing! http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=300&CollectionID=1

This should be a good player though...you know, after you scrape all that cr@p off the fret board (yuk!) :look:

Hi Ohjay,

I was comparing it to both my VSH435 and my Aria's 335 copies...

The Vantage:

Image

Yours seems to have larger and rounder upper horns and the bottom body seems a little less wide, plus you have the block inlays on your neck. Same sound holes...

The 60's and 70's Aria have a smaller body size but very different in all aspect....

Image

The sound holes, the upper horns, and all the Aria's were bolt on neck from my knowledge....

So....

Your Eagle has a unique build that I have not seen or tried..... :hyper:

Just trying to help figure thing out!

P. :D

I've totally forgotten about posting about this guitar on this forum.. I've had it for a week or two now

These pictures are from the day I got it, basically. I started tearing it down and giving it a rough cleanup, i.e. the "racing" treatment.
Cleaned the fretboard and giving it some much needed oil, polished the frets, I've also roughly handpolished the body and back of the neck to get the worst bits of grime. There's still work to be done with it though, but it's playable to a certain degree now at least.

The images then, pretty much self explanatory, but the third image shows some "evidence" of this being a japanese-made guitar. It also shows the pickups, which unfortunately aren't the original ones since the RoHS-stickers indicate that they were produced sometime after 2000.
The fifth image shows what it looks like under the bridge pickup. I've never owned or looked "inside" a 335 before, so not sure if it's supposed to look like that...

As for playability, it's nice and got a good sound. All in all a decent 335 guitar in my opinion. I do think it might be a bit better with some new pickups though, but the ones that are in there are by no means bad. (I oh so need to improve how to talk about how guitars play  )

I just traded for an Eagle yesterday. Previous owner thought it was a local luthier built guitar. As soon as i saw it I knew it was Matsumoku. Neck through, brass nut and bridge, Gotoh pickups. I'll get some pics soon.

Hello to all of you,
I put my hands last thursday on an "Eagle" branded 4 string bass.
It looks like a production of Mat luthiers.
We've already got a Vantage VP710B and an APII SB-1000 and they are from the same veine.
As far as I got informations, Eagle was the logo a french importer (IML shut-down in 2000) put on Japan manufactured guitars "according to its own specs".
It's a PB, active pups, short scale, pot knobs like Westone, 5 layers neck with 2 layers of ebony, rosewood fretboard.
I'm refurbishing it, most unpredictable part to find is the bridge, 5 mounting screws with a spacing of 65mm.
Similar to SB-1000 bridge but with 19mm string spacing instead of 16mm on the APII.
I attach pics for your own information, could be useful to some of you.
Regards from France.
Michel.
