Just picked this beauty up at a garage sale last weekend for $20. Just wondering what it really is. It LOOKS awesome, and it played fine when I plugged it in at the garage sale for a minute, but I'm restringing it today and plugging it in to a decent amp to really test her out. I'm sure it's not worth much money. I don't care about that. I just want to know what it is, and when it was made, for my own curiosity. It's been suggested that it might have been manufactured by Matsumoku. What do YOU think??? Thanks in advance for your time!

Yea, I'm guessing the only way we can see your pics is if we are FB friends.

I'm afraid we can't tell much from a single small picture.
It looks to be MIJ but what makes you say it is? Are there markings or stickers anywhere?

Just off hand, I'd hazard a guess that it might be something like a Granada which was a white label brand mostly found in Canada. Many of the early models were very well made, some by Mats, others by FujiGen and others.

A lot of the top end clones had the name in MOP in the headstock (as did Aria) so trying to remove it would have left an unholy mess. Other labels were decals or even stick-ons and more easily removed. Any traces of what was on the headstock?

Sorry... I thought I posted a link to all the pix! I'll fix that. The link above will take you to all the photos.

I put new strings on it last night and plugged it in, and... IT ROCKS!!! It sounds great!!! It needs a minor neck adjustment, but besides that, it's awesome. I also spoke with my neighbor who sold it to me for $20 today and she said the guitar was given to her by someone who had just had it stored in the garage for probably 30 years. It hasn't even been played in probably 30 years. The shop owner who I bought the strings from offered me $250 for it on the spot. Crazy.

Anyway, I'm still curious to know who manufactured it and when, so thanks for looking!!!

:)

*** There is nothing on the headstock, and nothing was removed that left an unholy mess. I suppose there could have been a sticker at one time, but it doesn't show of any residue or anything. ***

I'm gonna stay with my first impression: I don't think she's a Mats.
It looks like it was originally a 'white label' guitar probably made for the North American music school market, utilizing a cheap (removable) stick-on type label.
It is a good quality however, likely late 70's at a guess. Could be any one of several Japanese builders active at the time

My guess: made by Maya Kobe, around 1979.
