Hello. I have been looking for info on my guitar and came across this site, and am hoping to get as much information as I can on it. I have seen several other sites but it seems that the info out there is sketch and incomplete but with the history of the company and change of hands not to mention the plant burning down I can see how records and histories can be hard to follow.

I plan to post pics and info if I see that anyone is still hanging out here. (Noticed that the last post was half a year ago)

One interesting thing about mine is that the serial number is only a five digit number which from what I've seen is unusual, and might not follow the "first digit is the year" thing as my serial # is Unicord Serial number 47269...I got the guitar in 1982, and it was quite used then, so unless it was made in 1974, which I guess is not impossible, then that way of tracking the year might not be reliable. I don't really know though.

Let me know if any of you more knowledgable people might be able to help me figure out if I do have a Mat guitar / if it was MIJ / and any other clues as to age and such.

Hi Wormy.
Trying to find information on relatively obscure guitar brands can be frustrating. I can't help you specifically with Westbury but many members both here and on the http://forum.westoneguitars.net/ Forum have them and can give you some intelligent information. (The Search function is your friend).

What I can do is correct the impression you have been given that the Matsumoku plant "burned down". I've seen this reported on many sites and it's a myth, simply not true. They went out of business about February of 1987 when the principal owner Singer, ceased funding the operations.

For a timeline of the Westone instruments (the Mats house brand) have a look here:

I had a Westbury Custom for a while. Fantastic guitars! Also had a Standard for a while too. Not much info but some decent pics:

Hello. If you go to www.westburyguitars.com and then hit the "Vintage Models" link, you'll see all the information you're looking for.
