Hi all
Good to be on the forum!
Just picked this up and several people have suggested it looks Matsumoto but the headstock doesn’t look familiar. There are no markings or identifying features. Vantage with a different headstock?
Any thought?
Thanks

It sure looks like a Vantage VSH-455 but you are right, the headstock is not the usual Vantage headstock.

That does not look like an original neck to moi.
Did the VSH-455 have a scarf joint at the heel?? This one looks poorly matched.

You've got a good point Barry. Mine did not have that. Late Matt or early Korean?

No idea what it is or was, but I dont believe it was Matsumoku built.
The body laminations are wrong.
Can't recall ever seeing a VSH455 without a full cap on the back either.

Thanks for the replies.

That was my thought about the neck - though if it has been replaced, it was a lovely job!

Can you get a shot of the back of the neck from the headstock to around the 5th fret? If there is a joint there it is likely Korean. I went back and looked at the pics and the guys are right. If it's a Matt it should be a 3-piece neck and no splices at the heel or around the 3rd fret.

If there is a label inside one of the f-holes it may indicate the country of origin.

It doesn't look Mat to me either but, my Skylark has the same joint at the heel.
