Hello!
There is an opportunity to buy this guitar. The price is about 140 US dollars. The original guitar head was broken and restored by the master (it can be seen in the photo - I think that before there was the DIA logo).
The seller indicates that this is a Japanese copy of Gibson Dove.
There is no information on the Internet.
Does it make sense to take a chance and buy it?
What do you think ? I really need help in this matter.

I'll start by saying that this is one of the ugliest head stocks I have seen on a repair. :shudder:
It looks like it belongs on a home-made cigar box guitar and if this the work of a "master" then the Luthier World is in serious trouble!

A broken head stock on a Gibson style guitar is a common problem and is generally a routine repair, certainly something any Luthier or competent repair man could handle, no matter how messed up it might be, so I don't understand why it was discarded and replaced with this thing.

Any conceivable impact that might have destroyed the head stock beyond repair would have had to also damage the neck and likely the body too, but I'm not seeing evidence of that in the pictures.
This is just amateur vandalism!

The guitar itself is very likely a Matsumoku build and I expect that it once played and sounded OK, but although playable now I would not pay USD$140 for it.

p.s. The front strap pin has also been installed incorrectly. It should be on the far side (treble side) of the heel, so that the strap wraps around the heel, not in the centre like that. That makes the guitar pivot away from your body and the strap can pop off.

No kidding, right?
Given the visible workmanship I would also seriously question the integrity of the joint at the neck. It seems to be holding together in the picture but who knows for how long? :dunno:

No, I would not pay $140 of my dollars for that, mate.

Thanks guys! I will not buy this guitar.
I am from Ukraine, there are few good Japanese guitars and the prices are too high.
But I will continue to search.
What can you recommend from Japanese brands? What to look for?

Probably wise!

Look for 80s Japanese builds by Matsumoku and Chushin Gakki; brands would include, but are not limited to, Westone, Vantage, Aria Pro II, Washburn, Skylark, Quest, Epiphone and many more because these factories would also make "white" guitars for retailers and other manufacturers so that they could put their own names on them.

The reason I point these out is because there are still bargains to be had, whereas 80s Ibanez instruments are often way over-priced.

I guess, too, that 80s guitars are unlikely to be found in the Ukraine and you'll be looking further afield in Western Europe to purchase, yes?

Sometimes such guitars appear in Ukraine. I will search here, but I can order delivery from Germany (there is more choice), but you need to calculate the total cost along with delivery.

The prices for some of the better Japanese guitars has gotten out of hand, even in Germany. There is an ARIA 7460 Custom on Ebay Kleinanzeige that is the Gibson "Dove" copy (77+++ serial number), and the seller claims an original price of 3500 Euros. He's asking 1500., but it looks to be in really top condition.

This looks to be the exact same as Galaida's, but with an intact headstock. I doubt that he wants to spend that much, tho.
