And this is my wife's 2596 without the red paint and with chrome hardware rather than gold.

Hey Ice

That is nice and quite unusual. I would have one of these at the drop of a hat. Oaklands are really hard to find in UK. I take it that they are pretty rare in the Staes as well?

Cheers Graham! I've had a bugger of a time trying to find one over here.

Perhaps we need to find some means of setting up an exchange for the various Mats lines that normally are or only are found on certain continents. Oaklands and Electras are a good pair of lines that very succinctly make this point

BTW, I only copied that pic to illustrate it's similarity to my wife's Skylark, it is not my guit.

To wake a Zombie...
I just scored an OAKLAND XI 100 here in Germany. The guy had it for 25 years, getting it as a gift. It's in nearly mint condition with NO corrosion, only a small dent on the electrics cover (aluminium) and a chip by the upper horn strap pin. The only "serious" wear is the frets - they do need to be addressed. All research and comparisons point directly to Mats production, plus the similarities to SKYLARKS are pretty unmistakable.

I have seen a few OAKLANDS on the ebay kleinanzeige site - one or two horrendously overpriced, but others halfway reasonable. I got mine for almost a steal :D

She's a beauty! No doubt these are Mat-made.
I see 24 frets, is it 25 1/2 scale?
