I seriously doubt one will ever find any neck thru head stock in a parts bin  But I see what you mean.
Anyhow, since the Vantages I don't have are either undesirable to me, impossible to find, or waaay too expesive by now (mea culpa, mea maxima culpa, and I consider all other Vantage adepts over here equally guilty of that :D ), I'll be sure to include 'Oakland' in my future searches. I know the Skylark 2588 matches up to any solid body Vantage, I don't expect the Oaklands you brought to our attention to be any less. Maybe some of us here already knew about these (but kept it quiet), I didn't, so: thank you! The fact that I have hardly any funds available right now, and I haven't ever seen any of those Oaklands around here supplies me with a new challenge! You said you believe they were sold in Europe, right? I'm off hunting! :P

So far I've seen 3 versions of Oakland guitars: OAKLAND, OAKLAND & Co, OAKLAND by Westone!
Manufactured about 1976/77 - 1982/83
Copies of famous American models (Strat) + "Original designs"
The "original designs" are variations of existing models of other brands: Greco, S.D.Curlee, Ibanez, Westone, Skylark, Washburn (Wing Series)....

I believe Luxor (Germany) has ordered guitars from various japanese makers.
Some of the models might be Mat, some not.

The "second hand" prices I've seen over the (ebay) years are in the Vantage range!
You can stick to your Vantages, Kees! You've got one competitor less: me (crisis has annihilated shop and job  )

The one I've seen has a German label on the back of the headstock. If I was in Europe I'd be paying Hungary a visit right now for this baby OHSC and all!

Thanks, Gribb!

As for OAKLAND: "Luxor" was located in Ulm (Germany). The shopbrand "OAKLAND" included Oakland drums and Oakland flutes. The Luxor association of shops broke up in 1982/1983.
I've found some ads - will post them later....!

+1 on that. And I thought that getting that 2588 finally put the nail in the coffin for me on these.

After closely inspecting the earlier closeups with mine in hand I cannot see a gnat hairs difference really, other than the location of the output jack and one additional 3-way(?) switch. Even the fret inlays are virtually identical.
