Hi , i'm french so my english is not perfect.
I wanted to buy a cheap guitar for holydays , just for training.
I have found a Westone ( i didn't know this brand... ), i payed it 50€.
It had a little problem with knobs, i repaired that.
I plugged ... and i love her sound : very powerfull and clear.
I think it will be my main guitar (i have also a Fender US Strat and a Morris Hurricane Susie.
The brother of the seller has removed all the paint and put and additionnal knob.
There is 2 volumes, 2 tones with push pull for split ( or parallel i don't know)
The serial is 4091731.
Can you tell me more about this guitar?
Thanks
Merry Christmas

Hi there, fella and welcome!

Yep, that's a Westone Spectrum ST made in 1984 with the bridge pickup swapped out. Great guitar for the price; I have one and rate it very high indeed!

I'm sure the lads will be along shortly to help with the refinishing questions!!

Looks similar to my 1986 Spectrum ST

Mine has chrome hardware though

I had a 1985 Spectrum SX which had a smaller body shape though, but black hardware like yours

Strange that!

You know, that control layout is more Phoenix X165 than Spectrum....

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/x165.php

And I mean, I've got a guitar that has a non standard neck on it from the factory?!

Westone Spectrum and Electra Phoenix are essentially the same guitar; both made by Matsumoku probably on the same production line!!

The Westones seemed to be slightly more upmarket with locking terms available, but, by and large, they are the same guitar!

Spectrums, however, never had a 2V 2T control layout; they made do with a 1V 2T set up.....

Cleaning the fretboard involves scrubbing the daylights out of it with a stiff bristled toothbrush and as little water/detergent mix as you can make do with, as you really don't want too much water on the open grained wood on the board, then you get the wood thoroughly dry!! Once it's all nice and clean, then rub on as many coats of a non-mineral oil as it will take; my personal poison is Lizardspit but others swear by lemon oil, almond oil, and all sorts of other fruity oils!! :)

No; these came equipped with MMK pickups, either MMK45s or, if a late Spectrum, the fabled UBC pickups designed by Tom Presley.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about Ultrasonic pickups.....

The neckpickup is a Seymour Duncan APH-1NJ also named Alnico pro II, made in America innear 1986.
it has a good reputationfor jazz, blues, old rock.
I'm in holidays, i return at home tomorrow, i will try her plugged on my Fender Blues Deluxe.
I just have put new strings after cleaning body and neck.
I must adjust the neck with the trussroad but i don,t want to make a foolishness.

At last,i think i''ll have a good guitar but i won't know the Electra/Westone guitar sound...
