Just done repair on a Yoshi guitar, adding a new top nut to replace the knackered brass one, and adding widened string spacing.

Just asking if anyone knows the origin of these well made guitars. This one has 80s high output HBs, and is a sweet player

Any ideas??

I think they are Hoshino. Nice looking guitar but the bridge placement looks a bit funky.

Yeah, that bridge ain't right.
Then again neither was the Mats "barrel saddle" bridge. A couple of mine were cocked over like that to attempt to correct the string spacing. Both E strings on this one appear to be tracking too close to the edge of the board. :look:

Actually, this suits what I have done to this guitar anyway. Its not mine, it is a customers, and he wanted me to put a higher bone nut, with widened string spacing, as he plans to use it as a spare slide guitar, he already has this one as his main slide axe

This Yoshi is one he has owned for years, and wants to keep, but use more. The original brass nut had a ridiculously narrow string spacing, that didn't make any real use of the fingerboard width, plus the nut slots were really low too.

Sollo

Bridge looks the same as a Washburn Hawk which were made both by Matsumoku and Yamaki.

Sollo,

Any chance you having a look at the pickups or even taking pictures of the back? Would love to see what is in the control cavity also!

Pickups look suspiciously like DiMarzios, they are pretty high output too.

Unsealed cavity? Messy staining? Looks more like a refinish. Especially down the centre.

It do look like a refin. And, that bridge (or its location) may not be factory. :-?

Thank you Sollo for the added pictures...

One of the main reason I wanted to see the back was to see the center lamination and how it was done. I have several instruments done exactly the same way ( Hohner, Targa, Mann ) wich were all high end instruments that were manufactured by Cort in the mid 80's. The early 80' s stuff from them had reg dot markers and wich were replaced eventually replaced with brass nuts and fretmarkers....

The 3 in line volume and tone are also exactle the same.....

Can you tell me if you have any markings on the Pots in the cavity?

I'll see what pictures I have to compare...

The pups do look like DiMarzios...
