Okay so I screwed up. I finally decided to take the plunge into instrument buildingand decided a good way to start would to be to build a ukulele. I'm pretty much done with the final polish. Here is my problem that maybe some of you have run across before. I didn't fill the pores of the mahogany or level out the nitrocellulose lacquer very well and when it came time to fine sand and use a fine polish it left a residue in the pores that I can't get out with the method I'm using. I've tried rinsing it with Naptha several times and if I'm making any progress I don't see it. I think the actual substance in the pores is alumina powder .3 micron. I sure appreciate any thoughts you might have as to how to fix this short of sanding down the entire top and respraying it.
Thanks, Bruce

Have you tried using an old toothbrush or similar?
Once you get it out, you can add more clear. It will "melt" into the existing nitro and fill in the holes.
It'll take a bit but you can salvage it.
