I have a VE-570 and a VSH-455 with original knobs on the volume and tone pots.
I cannot remove them with a fair amount force and at this point I wonder if they
are removable at all. The knobs are the black ones without a set screw.

I don't want to use too much force and break the pot.

Would anyone have experience with this and if they did get the knobs
off how did they?

I use the knob puller from StewMac which I bought years ago when I was a tech. It does a great job on stubborn knobs:

There are a number of other ways to remove knobs but this is about as safe a method as you'll find. It ensures that the pressure is applied evenly so less chance of cracking the plastic.

It might be a bit pricey for a one-off use but if you have a lot of guitars, or work on guitars as I did years ago, it saves you from doing anything stoopid and damaging the pot or the guitar.

Duh! I forgot that I had this tool. I used it on my Strat.
It might be expensive but it is the safest way to pull knobs off,
so it's worth the money.
Thank you Barry!!!
