Ah, thx for that :)

The Protomatic's II in my 79' TS400 reads 8.23K (neck) and 7.92K (bridge) with the pickups still in the guitar. :loon:

So, am I correct in that the MMK53 uses alnico II magnets? Inductance?
I put a set of 45s in one of my scratch builds and really like the way it sounds. I'm getting close to pulling the 53s out of my Skylark to test those as well.
So, I'm looking into getting some reproductions.

I know a guy. . . :devil2:

MMK 45 (#450PF): Isotropy Ferrite
MMK 53 (#530DS): Anisotropy Ferrite
MMK 61 (#610PF): Alnico #5

(1980 VANTAGE marketing manual)

Jorg, my VP710 pups read:
Neck (MMK61) 7.73 / 3.94
Bridge (MMK53) 11.39 / 5.78

Yeah the 53's are indeed ceramic/ferrite BUT the difference from the 45's is in how they're magnetized. To my ears at least, they're about as ballsy, but they seem to have more clarity as well. Really like 'em!

And from that same manual Johann quoted:
#530DS
Diameter of Coil: 0.055
Number of Coil: 6.000
Magnet/Material: Anisotropy Ferrite
Size: 59x6x12.5
DC Ohms: 11.39k
Inductance: 5.77 Henries
Impedance at 100Hz: 12.0k
Impedance at 1000Hz: 39.6k
Impedance at 2,500Hz: 95.0 k

Thanks guys, that's the info I was looking for.
I agree on the 53s. I have them in my PE-R60 and my Skylark.
By far, I get more compliments on the sound from my R60 than any other guitar I've ever owned. I would have gone with the 53s from my Skylark but the 45s in my orange CS350 were easier to get to and I needed something in a hurry. Both of those guitars are still "in progress" and unplayable. I'm really hoping I can get these made and they sound close enough to the originals.
They just might become the standard pickups in R&R Custom guitars. :D

Hmm, the main issue I have with the alnicos I have is the pick attack. It sounds like an ice pick on glass. I believe all of mine are alnico 5 though. I've heard that alnico 2 is supposed to be "sweet" sounding and 5 is more "in your face".
If what I have is typical for alnico 5, I'll never own another.
