One last question: is the output jack on this bass stereo?

It probably is a ring/tip/sleeve jack, but not used for stereo, it is to close the circuit for the battery.

Also, since the basses have dual P-type pickups, I don't think it has a coil tap switch. I think it is a series/parallel switch. I'd have to take a closer look to be sure, but if I remember correctly, one switch has no effect on the tone when one or the other pickup is selected, but only when both are on.

(Doh! That switch having effect only when both pickups are on would be the phase switch, now, wouldn't it?)

Yes.

When a cord is plugged, the batteries are tapped. Always unplug the cords from the guitar/bass or it will keep draining the battery when not in use.
