Welcome to the board!

The guitar from the small pictures look to be original...BUT....

I don't think the pick is the original one that came with the guitar... :P

Welcome!
Looks original to me. I believe the only differences between the CS250 and CS350 are the tuners and finish.

hi Jorg,

thank you!

i did not realise this guitar had such an active following.
I just love it's sound, but realise there are some things not quite right, like some of the cracking and buzzing at times with-in the pots.
Also some fret wear.. Is it at all possible to replace frets???

cheers

Hans

Hi Frenchy.

Glad to hear it's original (apart from the pick; you're right on that count.

Hans, a squirt of contact cleaner into, the pots will probably deal to the snap, crackle and pop you're experiencing, and the frets probably just need to be levelled and crowned, which you could either tackle yourself - there's bags of help in here, and our resident fret guru is Racing: look his posts up! - or you can get the job done by a luthier.

Not sure who's about the Bay, but Ash Customworks in Auckland is pretty highly rated....

Depends on what you like playing, how deft your touch is and how much you want to spend!!

I use a set whose gauge is not available in a pre made set, so I'm pretty much stuck with Ernie Ball, which are OK, actually but there's all manner of strings out there from cheap'n'cheerful to "Have a seat when you learn the price!!"

I used Dean Markley Blue Steel mediums for a long time and loved them; they're pretty hard on your fingers and the fretboard but have a very crisp, bright sound.

The Ernie Balls, by contrast, are nowhere near as hard on the wood or your fingertips and have a more "mellow" sound...

We sell a ton of EB's and they're a first rate product. The pure nickels especially are pure 50's/60's vintage sound and very sweet sounding to most ears. But John, have you tried the new EB Cobalt strings yet? If you're looking for something a tad brighter and harder these may serve you very well. (Cost more 'though)

Hi,

thanks both of you for your replies, much appreciated. i was mainly asking the question also related to the gauge, as I read somewhere that, depending on the gauge, you may strain the neck too much say, if you use too heavy a gauge, and the neck is not build for it? (Althugh i'm learning fast and have just realised that the Pro II necks are build like a brick @%$#house, due to the complex construction.....) but yes, i would like to get that nice sweet sound.. :P
