My experience with this kind of thing is very limited so apologies in advance if this is a dumb question....

I have a zebra MMK45 with a cream bobbin that has somehow become distorted, looks like its been too close to a heat source at some point, and its left the coil exposed which has broken in several places. Anyway, the upshot is that it cannot be repaired in its current form and I'm left with a choice which I hope someone here can help me with.
My luthier reckons that if we use the parts (magnets?) out of the original pick up and get the spec for the MMK45 it would be possible for him to custom build one using a new bobbin etc.....I imagine it would be possible but would it sound like the original MMK?

Is this a viable option or should I just wait for a zebra MMK45 to come up for sale?

I have done this repair a few times. I did it as recently as last week. If you choose a bobbin with similar impedance as the damaged one then the results should be pretty good. Its only a coil after all and you are retaining one coil and the original magnet.

It's quite an easy fix.

I don't know what your luthier charges, but you may be better off just to find a good used one.

You can see it is used, but it works fine. Cream coil is threadbare (??? google trad... I'm not sure how you say "rapé")
Wiring has been changed twice, with 4 wires for my projetc, and back to his original wiring.
Output is 11.03 KHom.

I hope it will help :)
